Zinzan Finn Juhl Style Chieftains Chair

Juhl first exhibited the Finn Juhl Style Chieftains Chair in 1949 at the Cabinetmakers’ Guild in Copenhagen, during which King Frederick IX (the maternal grandfather of the Crown Prince Frederick of Denmark) sat in the chair, causing a journalist to suggest calling it the “King’s Chair.” But Juhl preferred a different name and replied, “You had better call it a Chieftain’s Chair.”

There is something both tribal and elegant about the shape of its armrests and its padded back with protruding wooden corners. Its seat slopes floor-wards and its back reclines, making it an inviting and visually stunning.

Our Replica Chieftains Chair is made of solid wood and top-grain Italian leather.

Zinzan Dublin’s Finn Juhl Style Chieftains Chair

A masterpiece of Danish mid-century design, the Chieftains Chair embodies a regal presence and artistic craftsmanship. First unveiled by Finn Juhl at the Cabinetmakers’ Guild in Copenhagen in 1949, the chair quickly gained acclaim when King Frederick IX sat in it, prompting the nickname “King’s Chair.” However, Juhl, ever the visionary, preferred the name “Chieftain’s Chair,” reflecting the bold and tribal elegance of its design.

This chair is a harmonious blend of organic curves and structural precision. Its solid ash wood frame, stained to a warm walnut finish, complements the padded seat and armrests upholstered in luxurious top-grain Italian leather. The chair’s distinctive armrests and protruding wooden corners, combined with its sloping seat and reclined back, create a striking visual and provide unmatched comfort, inviting relaxation while exuding an air of authority.

Each chair is custom-made to order, reflecting a commitment to personalized luxury. Delivery time is approximately 12-14 weeks from the date of order.
